The St. Augustine Lighthouse is located on Anastasia Island, FL. The lighthouse, which is currently active, was built in 1874. However, several similar structures at the same site were originally constructed starting as as long ago as 1763.
Ghost stories and paranormal activity are associated with the lighthouse and the nearby buildings. The lighthouse has been reported as being one of the most haunted structures in the South.
Hezekiah Pittee was the superintendent of the current lighthouse. He allowed his five children to occasionally ride on a material and supplies transportation cart for fun. However, on July 10, 1873, there was some sort of a mishap with the cart and the children fell into the water. Two of Hezekiah Pittee daughters and one of their friends died in the accident. The ghosts of the children have been reported being heard in the lighthouse to this day.
