Jackson's Pond

A red-shouldered hawk sits on a favorite branch eying the leaf litter for a possible "snack". The last time I visited the area, the hawk was virtually in the same spot (favorite hunting grounds I suppose) and I had photographed him capturing a salamander in the leaf litter. This time, he leaped from the branch, dove straight down, and... looking very puzzled, came up empty handed.

Meanwhile, a few hundred feet down the path, the resident Barred Owl kept a watchful eye on my every move.
